Kinuskikissa's Easter donuts

Making baked donuts is always so much fun and easy! The dough bakes neatly in the donut pan without having to handle hot oil, and then you get to focus on the best part – decorating! One of the favorite flavors of Easter, of course, is chocolate – and this treat is packed with it.

The secret to the deliciousness of these Easter-themed donuts is the hazelnut chocolate spread, which adds flavor to the dough and also works as a decoration. Using the shape of the donut, little bird's nests have been created. The combination of pretzel sticks and hazelnut chocolate spread creates a nest-like texture, and the colorful Easter egg candies finish off the spring look.

Recipe

Dough
Wheat flour
Cocoa powder
Baking powder
Butter
Sugar
Eggs
Milk or cream
Hazelnut chocolate spread
Chopped hazelnuts

For the pan
Butter or melted butter

Decoration
Pretzel sticks
Hazelnut chocolate spread
Easter egg candies

Dough
Combine the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder in a bowl. Whisk the butter and sugar together until creamy. Gradually mix in the eggs, dry ingredients, and milk/cream, alternating between them. Finally, add the hazelnut chocolate spread and chopped hazelnuts. Place the dough into a piping bag and cut a small opening at the tip. Grease the donut pan with melted butter. Pipe the dough into the donut pan, making sure the donuts are thin and stay below the middle of the pan, as they will rise in the oven.

Baking
Bake at 200°C for about 10 minutes. Once done, remove the donuts from the pan and place them on a cooling rack. Continue with the remaining dough in the same way. Clean and grease the pan between batches.

Decoration
Break the pretzel sticks into small pieces. Slightly soften the hazelnut chocolate spread by heating it briefly in the microwave on low heat or in a hot water bath. Mix the softened spread with the pretzel pieces. Use two spoons to scoop and arrange the chocolate pretzel mix on top of the donuts in a criss-cross pattern, creating a nest-like shape. Place Easter egg candies in the center of each donut. The donuts can be stored at room temperature. However, the texture is best on the day they are baked, so if you'd like to bake them earlier, you can freeze them.
