Italian morning

If coffee had a home, it would undoubtedly be Italy. Italians know how to enjoy coffee better than anyone else. For most Italians, the morning coffee is a ritual. In the mornings, you’ll see people in Rome heading to the nearest café to ask for “Un caffè” - a strong espresso. It’s often enjoyed with a delicious cornetto, filled with pistachio cream or Nutella.

Cafés are filled with friends, family members, and neighbors, all following the same daily ritual. It creates a beautiful sense of community. In Italy, coffee isn’t just a warm drink—it’s a cultural cornerstone that most, if not all, Italians hold dear.

I fell in love with this kind of morning routine while living in Rome. The easiest way to bring that experience home with me was to get my own Moka Express and make delicious, velvety espresso at home. The smell and that calm morning moment instantly take me back to mornings on Via Trionfale.

Here are some simple tips to perfect your morning coffee:

1. Get the perfect grind, preferably smaller (a bit coarser than caster sugar).

2. Measure your coffee. For a 6 cup Moka, you’ll want to use around 25g (3 1/2 tbsp) of ground coffee.

3. Never press down your coffee.

4. Brew on low heat. Let the coffee brew slowly to avoid a bitter taste.

5. Relax and enjoy your coffee!🤍☕️
