Italialainen aamu

Italian morning

If coffee had a home, it would definitely be Italy. Italians know how to enjoy coffee better than anyone else. Morning coffee is a ritual for most Italians. In the mornings in Rome, you can see people going to the nearest café to ask for 'un caffè' which refers to a strong shot of espresso. It is often accompanied by a deliciously flaky 'cornetto' filled with pistachio cream or Nutella.

Cafés are full of friends, family and neighbours who follow this same ritual every day. It creates a beautiful sense of community. In Italy, coffee is not just a warm drink, but rather a pillar of culture that most, if not all Italians, attach great importance to.

I loved this kind of start to the morning so when I moved back to Finland, I decided the best way to recreate it in my own kitchen was to get my own Bialetti moka pot and make a delicious and velvety espresso at home. The smell of it and the relaxing morning breeze will definitely take me back to the mornings of Via Trionfalen.

Here are some simple tips to perfect your morning coffee:

1. Get the perfect grind, preferably smaller (a bit coarser than caster sugar).

2. Measure your coffee. For a 6 cup Moka, you’ll want to use around 25g (3 1/2 tbsp) of ground coffee.

3. Never press down your coffee.

4. Brew on low heat. Let the coffee brew slowly to avoid a bitter taste.

5. Relax and enjoy your coffee!🤍☕️

Ciao!
